Investing in the Future of the Sea Lab

As a premiere marine resource center in the nation, the Dauphin Island Sea Lab needs long-term funding for faculty, program and facility expansion.

Increasing the Sea Lab’s Intellectual Assets

Dauphin Island Sea Lab is home to some of the best marine science faculty available. It must maintain and expand that intellectual base in order to respond to current and future marine environmental concerns. This include hosting visiting scientists and attracting top-notch graduate students.

Expanding Access to Sea Lab Activities

DISL wants to bring marine science to distant and underserved populations throughout Alabama. The Lab has started Diversity Outreach Programs, Distance Learning, and BayMobile, a traveling marine laboratory, but resources are needed to do more.

Creating Best Practices in Coastal Resource Management

The Sea Lab’s coastal policy group currently assists local government and business interests with resource planning to improve coastal sustainability. A formal center for disseminating information and providing technical assistance will promote wise stewardship of our marine environment.

Building a Cutting Edge Sea Lab Campus

To meet increasing demands of students, faculty, and community programming, the Lab will need additional vessels, lab and library space, and a cutting edge distance learning classroom/conference center.
